The Ogun State Police Command announced on Saturday that they have arrested a man named Fatai Quadri, who was caught in a viral video violently beating his wife, Rukayat Quadri, at their home in Illese-Ijebu on September 15, 2025.
In the video, Fatai was seen punching his wife several times, which caused her serious injuries. After the video spread widely on social media, police officers from the Igbeba Divisional Headquarters in Ijebu Ode quickly moved in and arrested him.
The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police, CSP Omolola Odutola, released an official statement to journalists confirming the arrest. According to her, the first findings from police investigations showed that the attack was linked to a marital dispute. The quarrel reportedly began after Fatai accused his wife of being unfaithful.
Further investigation also revealed that the issue got worse because Fatai had transferred ownership of a 10-room apartment, which he and his wife had built together to another woman. This act is believed to have provoked the violent assault on Rukayat.
At the moment, Rukayat is receiving medical treatment for the injuries she suffered, while Fatai is still in police custody. The police confirmed that he will be taken to court once the investigation is fully completed.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, also reacted to the case. He stressed that the command has zero tolerance for domestic violence. He warned that anyone found guilty of assaulting their spouse, partner, or family member will face the full force of the law.
The police command also encouraged members of the public, especially women and other victims of abuse, to speak up and report cases of violence immediately to the nearest police station. According to the police, keeping silent only gives more power to abusers, while reporting quickly helps victims get protection and justice.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Ogun State. For example, back on June 23, 2020, PUNCH Online reported that a member of the COVID-19 task force in Ojodu Abiodun, under Ifo Local Government Area, was also arrested after being filmed assaulting a woman. The victim, identified as Tolu Adesh, later shared her experience online. She explained that the task force officials had harassed her family and even demanded money from them during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The police in Ogun State are now using these cases as a reminder to the public that domestic violence, assault, or any kind of abuse will not be tolerated, and offenders will be dealt with according to the law.
