On Monday, August 25, popular Nollywood actress Rita Edochie caused a stir on social media after she posted a video with a white man, suggesting that she may have started a new romantic relationship.
Rita, who has often shown strong support for May Edochie, the estranged wife of fellow actor Yul Edochie, appeared very cheerful in the video. In the clip, she was seen singing happily to the man, who has been identified as Tony. At one point, Tony gave her a light kiss on the cheek, which immediately got people talking.
In her long caption that followed the video, Rita described Tony as her “client.” However, she also gave strong hints that her marriage to her Nigerian husband might be over. Many people who read the post believed she was trying to say she had moved on with her life.

The actress also used the opportunity to indirectly criticize internet fraudsters, popularly known in Nigeria as “Yahoo boys.” She bragged that unlike them, she didn’t need to use fake pictures or false identities to get attention from someone abroad. Instead, she claimed that she attracted Tony simply by being herself and using her real photos.
In her words, she announced: “Breaking news! Awada, your mama has finally gotten herself a client. And not just any client, a proper one who actually has money. Yes, I have left my Nigerian husband and now I am marrying a white man. You Yahoo boys are not the only ones who can catch clients. I have started doing it myself and I successfully got one who has plenty of money.”
She went on to add that she didn’t use tricks, fake identities, or laptops to attract Tony. According to her, it was her natural beauty, her real pictures, and her modest dressing style that impressed him. Rita joked that Tony would soon be “vomiting a lot of euros” on her, meaning he would spend a lot of money on her.
Finally, she addressed those who might criticize her for allegedly leaving her Nigerian husband to marry a foreigner. She boldly said that if anyone was upset by her decision, they were free to complain, buts he didn’t care.
