Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, widely known as Spyro, recently opened up about the challenges he faced watching his colleagues, Fireboy DML and Oxlade, achieve stardom before him. In a candid conversation on the Tea With Tay podcast, Spyro shared the pain he experienced when artists he considered his junior counterparts in the music industry gained prominence despite his efforts to promote his music.
Spyro revealed that he invested in promoting his songs on significant platforms like NotJustOk, hoping to achieve the breakthrough associated with such exposure. However, when Fireboy and Oxlade rose to fame, Spyro couldn’t help but feel a sense of frustration and questioned why his success was delayed.
He expressed that, looking back, he realizes that God used this period of delayed success to teach him valuable lessons about humility and reliance on divine grace rather than relying solely on talent.
Reflecting on the success of Fireboy and Oxlade, Spyro acknowledged the trigger of pain and frustration but emphasized that he is now in a space of acceptance and gratitude. The singer highlighted the emotional struggles he faced during that time, including moments of crying and wrestling with his faith.
