After spending some quality time in the not-so-cozy embrace of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), controversial activist Martins Vincent Otse better known as VeryDarkMan has been released. Yes, folks, the man is out, and Twitter (or X, for the fancy ones) is buzzing.
The news of his release was broken by none other than human rights warrior and professional fire-starter, Omoyele Sowore, who posted the update across his social platforms as expected, with the usual energy of a man who’s always ready to fight The Man, seconded by VDM lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
In case you missed the drama, VeryDarkMan was picked up last week under eyebrow-raising circumstances near a bank in Abuja. Cue online outrage, digital protests, and fans screaming, “Free VDM!” like it was a Marvel movie teaser.
Initially, the EFCC played the “who, us?” game denying any involvement. But by Tuesday, they came clean, admitting they’d been keeping him company over some serious allegations of “grave financial malfeasance.” That’s lawyer-speak for “money wahala.”
Good news, though: the agency finally offered him administrative bail and said he could go home once he met the conditions, of course. As of Wednesday evening, it looks like he did.
