President Bola Tinubu has reportedly approved the reinstatement of suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja involving all aggrieved parties.
However, the reinstatement comes with four major conditions, allegedly tied to a deal brokered with the influence of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
According to sources, the conditions include:
- Fubara must not seek re-election in 2027, effectively ending his political journey after completing the current four-year term.
- Wike will have control over local government leadership, with the power to nominate all chairpersons across the state’s 23 local government areas.
- Fubara must pay all outstanding allowances and entitlements owed to the 27 state lawmakers loyal to Wike. These lawmakers were previously suspended from the Rivers State House of Assembly.
- The lawmakers, once reinstated, will not move to impeach Fubara, providing a fragile but temporary peace within the state’s volatile political landscape.
The agreement is seen as a strategic compromise designed to stabilize the Rivers State government and halt the escalating political crisis. While Fubara retains his seat, the terms significantly shift political leverage to the Wike camp.
