President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General Adeyemi Olumode as the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).
The announcement was made on Wednesday by retired Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), and comes ahead of the scheduled retirement of the current Controller-General, Abdulganiyu Jaji, on August 13, 2025.
According to the source, Maj.-Gen. Jubril said the appointment was in line with succession planning following Jaji’s retirement upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. He also praised Jaji for his decades of dedicated service.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General (DCG) Adeyemi Olumode as the new Federal Fire Service (FFS) Controller-General (CG),” Jubril stated.
He added that Olumode was selected based on his qualifications, experience, and successful completion of various command and in-service training programs both locally and internationally.
Who is Adeyemi Olumode?
Adeyemi Olumode, a native of Kogi State, brings over 20 years of firefighting and administrative experience to his new role as the nation’s fire chief.
- He began his career in the late 1990s with the FCT Fire Service, gaining hands-on experience in managing some of Nigeria’s major fire incidents.
- He later transitioned to the Federal Fire Service, steadily rising through the ranks and holding several key operational, command, and administrative roles.
- Most recently, he served as Head of the Human Resource Directorate at the FFS headquarters in Abuja, overseeing personnel development and service-wide capacity building.
Olumode has also led numerous officer retraining and public fire awareness campaigns, and has been instrumental in driving fire prevention policy and public safety initiatives across Nigeria.
