Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election and has commenced wide-ranging consultations with party stakeholders across the state.
Omisore launched his mobilisation efforts from the Ijesa North and South Federal Constituencies, reaffirming his vision for a self-reliant and prosperous Osun State that can thrive beyond dependence on federal allocations. He urged grassroots members, party loyalists, and political leaders to rally behind his ambition to emerge as the APC flagbearer in the primaries scheduled for November or December 2025.
“This is not about ambition alone; it is about collective reasoning and strategy. Osun needs common sense now more than ever. We cannot afford to field a candidate who merely participates; we must present a candidate who can win,” he declared.
The former Deputy Governor of Osun State stressed his commitment to consensus-building, adding that his final decision would be guided by feedback from grassroots engagement and stakeholder alignment.
Speaking on Omisore’s political strength, former Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunso Bamisayemi, credited him with playing a decisive role as APC National Secretary in averting internal crises and ensuring the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
“Senator Omisore is based in Ife, one of the four largest voting blocs in Osun. He sustained financial and strategic support for the APC, including backing the reinstatement of local government officials across the state,” Bamisayemi said.
Similarly, Chairman of Ilesa East Council, Hon. Olanrewaju Balogun, described Omisore’s governorship bid as a unity agenda aimed at consolidating APC’s strength ahead of the 2026 elections.
