The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the escalating violence and mass killings in Nigeria, particularly the recent massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina State, where more than 50 worshippers were murdered in a mosque.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately declare a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara states to curb the persistent wave of brutality unleashed by terrorists and bandits.

The ADC described the attack as yet another grim reminder of Nigeria’s deteriorating security system, linking it to a broader wave of terror that has claimed over 140 lives in Katsina and Zamfara within the past two months.

“It is a damning proof of the total collapse of our national security architecture, which has prompted even the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to advise citizens to learn how to defend themselves,” Abdullahi stated.

The party further criticized President Tinubu for what it called “jet-setting across the world” while Nigerians continue to face relentless bloodshed at home. It also faulted the decision of PDP governors to hold a political meeting in Zamfara only days after dozens were massacred, describing the move as “grossly insensitive.”

The recent Malumfashi killings follow a series of brutal attacks in Zamfara, including the murder of 47 people, among them 38 hostages executed despite ransom payments. Earlier in August, another 45 people were killed when entire villages were ransacked and residents abducted by armed groups.

“Taken together, over 140 Nigerians have been murdered in just two months in Katsina and Zamfara alone,” the ADC spokesperson lamented, insisting that urgent intervention is the only way to prevent further bloodshed and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s security framework.
