A shocking video has been widely shared on social media showing a serious fight between a lecturer and a female student at Niger Delta University (NDU) in Bayelsa State.
The video, which quickly went viral after being posted on Facebook by This is Bayelsa on Monday, shows both the lecturer and the student physically attacking each other inside a lecture hall. In the clip, they can be seen exchanging punches, and at one point, the lecturer even appeared to headbutt the student.
According to reports, the fight started after the lecturer allegedly caught the student cheating during an examination. The lecturer ordered her to leave the hall immediately, but the student refused. Instead, she insisted on collecting her phone before stepping out. This disagreement led to a heated argument, which soon turned violent. In the video, a voice, believed to be the lecturer’s could be heard saying:
Young lady, leave the hall first. You were caught cheating. Instead of you to leave the hall, you’re still saying ‘give me my phone.
The incident sparked widespread reactions online, with many people expressing shock and disappointment at the behavior of both the lecturer and the student.
In a separate video that surfaced on Wednesday, a 300-level student of History and Diplomacy in the Faculty of Arts, identified as Favour, came forward to publicly apologize. She admitted that she played a role in spreading the video online, which contributed to its quick circulation.
In her apology, she said: I want to sincerely apologise for my role in the circulation of a video that has caused embarrassment to my department and the school. I did not record the video, but I know that by forwarding it to my class group, I made it go viral. I regret my actions deeply. I am truly sorry to the university, my department, and my lecturers. It was never my intention to bring shame to anyone. This experience has taught me a very big lesson, and I promise to act more responsibly in the future.
As of now, the management of Niger Delta University has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident or how it will be handled. Students, staff, and the general public are still waiting for the university authorities to address the matter.
