Giorgio Armani, the world-famous Italian fashion designer and the man behind one of the most luxurious lifestyle brands, has passed away at the age of 91. His company announced on Thursday that he died peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
In a heartfelt statement, the Armani Group said: “With endless sadness, we announce the passing of our founder, our creator, and the tireless heart of this company: Giorgio Armani.”
Armani was one of the most famous and respected fashion designers of our time. He opened his fashion house in Milan in 1975, and from there, he quickly rose to the very top of the fashion world. Over the years, he became known not only for his clothing lines but also for dressing many Hollywood stars and global celebrities.
Although Armani’s funeral will be private, the company has arranged a way for fans and admirers to pay their respects. On Saturday and Sunday, a funeral chamber will be open in Milan for the public to say goodbye.
The statement from the company also explained that Armani’s employees and colleagues always spoke of him with great respect, calling him Il Signor Armani. They said he worked with incredible energy and passion right up until the very end of his life, still dedicating himself to new projects, new collections, and the future of the company he built.
Earlier this year, Armani had been forced to cancel his menswear show in Milan due to health problems. He also missed his Paris Armani Privé fashion show for the first time in 20 years after doctors told him to rest. Despite this, Armani made it clear he was still involved in every detail of the show. In July, he said in a statement: “My doctors advised more rest, even though I felt ready. I followed and oversaw every aspect of the show remotely. I approved and signed off on everything you will see.”
Giorgio Armani was not only credited with creating the idea of red carpet fashion, making celebrities shine at movie premieres and award shows, but he also expanded his empire beyond luxury clothing. Through Emporio Armani, he offered a younger and more affordable line, and he also opened luxury hotels around the world, bringing his elegant style into hospitality.
His passing comes only weeks before the company was set to celebrate 50 years of the Armani brand, making the loss even more significant.
