A woman who used to sell puff-puff by the roadside, Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo, has now been given a big opportunity. She has been appointed as a chef in the Osun State Government House after catching the attention of Governor Ademola Adeleke during a recent labour rally in Osogbo.
Some weeks ago, during the rally, Governor Adeleke noticed Ms. Adejumo selling puff-puff to passers-by. He surprised her by buying all the snacks she had that day and paid her a huge amount of ₦50,000. At that same moment, he promised to give her a job as a chef in the Government House.
On Friday, the governor kept his word. He announced on his official X (Twitter) handle that he had officially presented Ms. Adejumo with her appointment letter. She will now be working as one of the chefs in the Osun State Government House kitchen.
Governor Adeleke wrote:“A few days ago, I met Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo during a rally where labour unions and several groups came out to support my re-election. That day, I made her a promise. Today, I have fulfilled that promise by giving her an appointment letter as one of our Government House chefs.
Not only this, I have also approved a scholarship for her education up to Master’s degree level, if she chooses to continue her studies.
This kind gesture touched many people because it shows how an ordinary puff-puff seller can suddenly have her life transformed through hard work, determination, and grace.
Interestingly, Ms. Adejumo is not just a street food seller. She already holds a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and has received formal training in catering. She first became popular when a video of the governor buying all her puff-puff went viral on social media.
On the same day, Governor Adeleke also announced another achievement. He celebrated the reopening of the long-abandoned Osun Farmers’ House in Osogbo. The project was first started many years ago by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola but was left unattended by the governments that came after him.
According to Adeleke, reviving the Farmers’ House is part of his commitment to support farmers in Osun State and to grow the agricultural sector. He explained that agriculture is one of the most important areas for development, especially because it will help fight hunger, create jobs, and improve the state’s economy.
This achievement shows how serious we are about supporting farmers and transforming every part of Osun State. I truly appreciate the support of our farmers and I promise to keep working hard to improve agriculture so that our people can have enough food, the governor said.
From appointing Ms. Adejumo as a chef and offering her a scholarship, to reopening a major agricultural project, Governor Adeleke has shown that his government is focused on both helping individuals immediately and also planning for the long-term growth of the state. His actions highlight a balance between empowering people one-on-one and building sustainable projects that will benefit the entire society.
