Nuno Espirito Santo has been dismissed by Nottingham Forest following a public rift with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
In a statement confirming the decision, the club cited “recent circumstances” as a key factor.
“The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club. As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey,” the statement read.

The Portuguese coach took charge at the City Ground in 2023, replacing Steve Cooper, and guided Forest to a European spot last season. However, his previously strong relationship with Marinakis reportedly began to sour this summer.
Speaking in August, Nuno admitted:
“I have always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season was very, very close, almost on a daily basis. This season, not so well.”
Reports suggested that Nuno, Marinakis, and Forest executive Edu planned face-to-face talks to address the situation, but those discussions are not believed to have taken place.
Forest are now considering options in the managerial market. Ange Postecoglou is understood to be highly regarded by Marinakis. The Australian is a free agent after being sacked by Tottenham in the summer despite guiding Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years — the Europa League. His dismissal came after a poor Premier League campaign that saw Tottenham finish 17th.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has also linked Jose Mourinho with the vacancy. Other names reportedly admired by the club include Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, and USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Forest used the international break to explore their options and will face Arsenal in their first Premier League fixture after the break.
