The famous American R&B group Shalamar will be performing live in Abuja on October 4th in a special concert that will also celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the concert will take place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, and it is expected to attract both residents of the Federal Capital Territory and music lovers from other parts of the country.
Fans are in for an evening of nostalgia and excitement, as the group will perform many of their timeless classics. Shalamar is well known around the world for their smooth R&B sound and electrifying stage presence. With hits like A Night to Remember and I Can Make You Feel Good, the group has built a strong legacy that continues to influence music lovers, both old and young.
The concert is being organized by iCreate Africa, working together with First Culture Limited. Organizers describe the show as more than just a musical performance, it will be a journey through Shalamar’s rich history, offering a mix of soul, funk, and dance music that defined an era.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Bright Jaja, the Chief Executive Officer of iCreate Africa, said Shalamar’s choice to include Nigeria in their global tour is a major cultural milestone. He described it as not just an honour but also a long-overdue gift to Nigerian music lovers who have supported and cherished the group’s music for decades. Jaja also noted that the event will create lasting memories, especially for older audiences who rarely get concerts designed specifically for them.
Tickets for the show are already on sale and can be purchased at Jabi Boat Club, El-Amin International School, House 43, and Istanbul Restaurant inside Jabi Mall.
Tunde Babalola, the Creative Director of First Culture, explained that the event is more than just a concert. He called it a musical bridge that connects the past and the present, offering something meaningful for people of all ages. According to him, attending the concert will be an opportunity to experience goose bumps, thrills, and an unforgettable trip down memory lane.
The members of Shalamar,Howard Hewett, Carolyn Griffey, and Jeffrey Daniel, also sent a video message to their fans in Nigeria. They expressed how excited they are to return and perform again.Jeffrey Daniel, who is credited with creating the famous dance move known as the “backslide” (later renamed the moonwalk), promised that the Abuja concert will truly be a night to remember.
Shalamar is celebrated not only for their smooth R&B sound but also for their contribution to modern dance. They helped popularize body-popping in the United Kingdom and remain one of the most respected funk and soul groups of their time. Over the years, they have sold more than 25 million records, cementing their reputation as legends in the music industry.

This upcoming concert will not be Shalamar’s first visit to Nigeria. Back in January 1982, the group performed at the National Arts Theatre in Lagos and later thrilled fans with sold-out shows at the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, and the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
Now, more than four decades later, their return to Nigeria is set to bring the same magic. As the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the show promises to be a powerful mix of live music, dance, and nostalgia, an event that will be remembered for years to come.
