On Wednesday, September 10, police reported that a man attacked a teacher and a student with a knife at a gardening and horticultural school in the town of Antibes, in southern France. The attacker has been caught and taken into custody by the police. Officials confirmed that he is no longer a danger to anyone.
According to police, the man was once a student at the same school. However, investigators do not yet know why he carried out the attack. Police teams quickly arrived at the school, which is called Campus Vert d’Azur, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Local mayor Jean Leonetti explained that three people were injured during the incident. One of them is in more serious condition than the others, but fortunately none of the victims are in life-threatening danger. Reports from the French newspaper Le Monde mentioned that the teacher was badly hurt, while the student’s injuries were lighter and not as severe.
Mayor Leonetti also posted a message on social media, strongly condemning the violent act. He wrote that such brutal attacks sadly can happen anywhere in the country, and that this time it struck Antibes. He praised the calm and bravery of the school principal and staff, who helped to control the attacker before police arrived. He also expressed support for the victims and their families, while thanking both the police and firefighters for their quick and professional response.
The attack took place in Antibes, a town in the southeast of France. Antibes is located between Cannes and Nice and is well known for its historic old town, its 16th-century stone walls, and its busy harbor filled with luxury boats.
France’s agriculture minister reacted strongly to the news. She condemned the attack and immediately traveled to the school. In her message online, she said her thoughts were with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire school community. She added that schools must always remain safe places for learning, where violence has no place and will never be accepted.
Alexandra Borchio-Fontimp, a senator from the Alpes-Maritimes region, also expressed her sympathy. She wrote that she was thinking about the teacher and student who were attacked and gave her support to the entire school community. She thanked the security forces for acting quickly, which allowed the suspect to be arrested without further harm.
