The Dangote Refinery has announced it will commence free direct supply of petrol across Nigeria on September 15.
The development was confirmed in a post on the refinery’s official X page on Thursday. According to the statement, the initiative will begin in 11 states before being expanded nationwide.
The refinery said petrol will be sold at an ex-gantry price of ₦820 per litre. For retail outlets, the pump price has been fixed at ₦841 per litre in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states, while Abuja, Delta, Rivers, Edo, and Kwara states will get supplies at ₦851 per litre.
“All petrol station owners nationwide are invited to register for free delivery and other benefits,” the company stated.
Earlier, on June 15, the refinery announced the acquisition of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered tankers to boost its distribution capacity across the country. Two weeks later, on June 29, the company revealed that its nationwide fuel distribution scheme could save Nigerians over ₦1.7 trillion annually.
Industry analysts, however, have noted that while the move could reduce costs for end users, it may also pose challenges for operators in the downstream sector.
