Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Musa-Ismail, over alleged negligence of duty.
The suspension was announced on Thursday in a statement by Yahaya Sarki, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity.
According to the statement, the commissioner has been directed to provide convincing reasons why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him for alleged negligence and disregard for his official responsibilities.
“By this directive, the commissioner is hereby suspended from office until further notice,” the statement read.
Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, discipline, and effective service delivery across all sectors. He stressed that public officials must live up to the trust and confidence placed in them.
The suspension follows growing public criticism of the state’s healthcare system after a viral video published by journalist Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa exposed the poor state of facilities at Kangiwa General Hospital. The footage showed patients lying on bare metal beds without mattresses, sparking widespread outrage.
Another video shared by the journalist revealed a flooded hospital in the state, further fueling concerns over the condition of healthcare infrastructure in Kebbi.
While the videos triggered calls for urgent reforms in the sector, reports also indicate that the journalist was arrested and detained shortly after releasing the materials.
