American rapper and singer Lil Nas X, famous worldwide for his hit song “Old Town Road,” has pleaded not guilty to serious criminal charges. His case comes after a strange incident in Los Angeles last month, when he was seen walking almost completely naked on the streets.
According to a report by Billboard on Tuesday, the 26-year-old artist, whose real name is Montero Hill, did not personally attend his court hearing on Monday, September 15. Instead, his lawyers appeared for him. Judge Shellie Samuels explained that Lil Nas X is currently getting medical treatment outside the state of California.
“We’re not going to give out details about where he is,” the judge said.“That’s private. What matters is that he is receiving treatment.”
The judge decided to keep Lil Nas X’s bail at $75,000 but made changes to his release rules, so he can stay out of California while his treatment continues. His next court hearing is scheduled for November 18.
After the court session, his lawyer Drew Findling spoke to reporters. He did not share exactly what type of treatment the rapper is receiving but made it clear that it is for his overall good.
We’re focused on what is best for Montero, not just for his career but, most importantly, for his personal health and well-being,Findling explained. He has a very supportive family and team who love him and are standing by his side. This is just a difficult moment, but he will overcome it.
The background to this case goes back to August 21, when Lil Nas X was arrested in the early morning hours in Studio City, Los Angeles. Videos showed him walking in just his underwear and cowboy boots. Police say he resisted arrest and even attacked officers during the incident. Only a few days later, on August 25, prosecutors filed four felony charges against him, claiming he charged at police officers who tried to detain him during his naked walk through Los Angeles.
This story has received a lot of attention, not only because of the unusual and shocking details of the arrest but also because it comes shortly after Lil Nas X revealed he had a health scare earlier this year. He had told fans he was recovering from partial facial paralysis, which already worried many of his supporters.
Now, with his next court date set for November, all eyes are on Lil Nas X. Both fans and people in the music industry are waiting to see how he will deal with this tough period in his life, balancing his legal issues with his health treatment and career.
