Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has confirmed she is pregnant with her fourth child, revealing the news exclusively on CBS Mornings Wednesday.
The rapper said she is expecting the baby with her partner, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, after weeks of speculation about her private life. The child is due ahead of her first arena tour, Little Miss Drama, which is scheduled to kick off in February.
Cardi, 32, described herself as “excited” and “happy” as she prepares to juggle motherhood, an upcoming album rollout, and her tour.
“I feel like I’m in a good space. I feel very strong and powerful that I’m working hard while also creating a baby. Me and my man are very supportive of each other,” she said.
The Bronx-born star praised Diggs for providing stability and encouragement as she finalizes her sophomore album, Am I The Drama?, which features a track titled Safe. “He just makes me feel safe, confident, and strong,” she said, adding that his reassurance helped her overcome a recent panic attack as she struggled with the pressures of releasing new music.
Cardi admitted online criticism sometimes makes her hesitant to share her work. “This is why I don’t put music out sometimes, because my art is something I put a lot of love and effort into. And when people tear it apart, it crushes you,” she explained.
Still, she said Diggs’ support keeps her grounded. “He makes me feel like I could take over the world,” she said, revealing that she delayed the pregnancy announcement until after finalizing certain business deals. She also joked that she has not yet told her parents, saying she is “scared of them.”
The rapper, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, already shares three children with ex-husband Offset. She admitted she was hesitant to fall in love again after their highly publicized split, but credited Diggs for changing her mind. “He told me, ‘Let me heal you. Give me a chance to heal you.’”
Now embracing motherhood once more, Cardi leaned on her trademark humor to encourage fans to support her next album. “Now y’all can buy my album so I can buy Pampers and diapers. I told you, now go support me, I’m a mother of four now,” she joked.
She said the upcoming project feels like her most complete body of work yet. “I feel like it touches on everything I wanted to say. It’s something that isn’t out there right now,” she added.
