World number one tennis player Aryna Sabalenka has decided not to take part in the upcoming China Open because of an injury. She picked up this injury while competing at the US Open in New York earlier this month, where she managed to win her fourth Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka, who is from Belarus, recently defeated Amanda Anisimova to win the US Open for the second year in a row. That victory came just 10 days ago, but unfortunately, the effort left her with a physical problem that has not yet healed fully. Because of this, she will not be able to play in the China Open, a major WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing that is set to begin on September 24.

Tournament organisers officially announced her withdrawal, saying that she has not completely recovered from the injury she got during the US Open. Sabalenka herself also shared her feelings with fans on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform. She explained that she had suffered a small injury at Flushing Meadows and said she was very sad to have to miss the event in Beijing.
In her message, Sabalenka added that her main focus right now is to rest and recover so that she can come back strong. She promised that she is working hard to return to the court at full strength as soon as possible.
The 27-year-old tennis star is expected to play again next month at the Wuhan Open, another big WTA 1000 tournament, where she will be defending her title. She also reassured her supporters that she is excited about returning to China soon.
“I can’t wait to meet my Chinese fans,” she said warmly. Although I won’t be in Beijing this year, I hope to be back and play in front of you all next year.
