The National Industrial Court has issued an interim order restraining the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association from embarking on strike or picketing against the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Justice Emmanuel Subilim granted the ex parte motion filed by Dangote’s counsel, George Ibrahim (SAN), in Abuja on Wednesday, barring the unions from blocking roads or disrupting operations at the refinery and affiliated firms.
The judge held that irreparable damage could occur without the injunction, which will last seven days pending the hearing of a motion on notice. The case file has been referred to the court president for reassignment.
BSGISTNEWS reports that Dangote Refinery argued that the unions’ planned action would violate constitutional and labour laws, while NUPENG accused the company of intimidation and breaching workers’ rights agreements.
