Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has dismissed fresh allegations linking him to Nigeria’s fuel subsidy scandal, describing them as false, malicious, and an attempt to rewrite history.
The claims were made by Umar Sani, former media aide to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, who accused Otedola of complicity in the subsidy scheme.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, Otedola clarified that Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited only traded in diesel, a deregulated product outside the subsidy regime, and therefore could not have made subsidy claims.
He further insisted that he was the whistleblower who first exposed the fraud under President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that his actions led to parliamentary investigations into the scam.
On his past clash with the House of Representatives probe panel, Otedola maintained that the alleged bribe to Hon. Farouk Lawan was part of a DSS sting operation, which eventually led to Lawan’s conviction.
The billionaire also urged President Bola Tinubu to release the Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede report on subsidy fraud, noting that Nigerians deserve to know the real beneficiaries.
On his past dealings with AMCON, Otedola explained that he had fully settled his debts by handing over assets worth hundreds of billions of naira, a move publicly commended by the agency.
Vowing not to let the allegations go unchallenged, Otedola confirmed he has instructed his lawyers to file a ₦1 billion libel suit against Umar Sani.
