Lagos State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). She passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Akinola, who until her death was the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, was described as a seasoned administrator and Head of Administration of Coker Aguda LCDA.
Confirming her death, the Forum of Council Managers said in a statement:
“With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”
According to the Forum, she will be buried in line with Islamic rites on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Her Janazah Prayer will hold at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, by 2:00 p.m.
Her death marks the fifth loss of a female local government official in Lagos within two months, a development many have described as unprecedented.
On August 13, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C, Ibeju Lekki, died just weeks after her inauguration. Five days later, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, also passed away. The state was again thrown into grief in September with the death of Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, on September 20, followed by Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, on September 21.
Mrs. Akinola’s passing, so soon after these others, has deepened concerns and sorrow across Lagos councils, with many describing the string of tragedies as a heavy blow to the local government system.
