Nigerian-American academic and television personality, Wendy Osefo, has reportedly been removed from her position as a professor at Wesleyan University following her arrest alongside her husband, Eddie Osefo, on multiple fraud-related charges.
According to reports, the couple was booked on October 9, 2025, on a 34-count charge comprising both felony and misdemeanor offences, including conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and making false statements to law enforcement authorities.
The charges stem from an alleged scheme in April 2024, in which the Osefos purportedly staged a home burglary and falsely claimed that luxury items and jewellery worth approximately $500,000 had been stolen.
Neither Wendy nor her husband has publicly commented on the allegations as of press time.
Wendy Osefo joined Wesleyan University in the fall of 2024, where she taught a course titled “The Sociology of Reality TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia.” Before her tenure at Wesleyan, she was an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, where she held a tenured position until her resignation in 2024.
A distinguished academic, Osefo holds degrees from Temple University and Johns Hopkins University, as well as a Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Community Development from Rutgers University. She is widely recognised for her scholarship in education, race, and media representation.
Outside academia, Osefo is a prominent media commentator and reality television figure, best known for her role on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac.”
