The Government of Germany has commended Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security cooperation between both nations.
German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, made this known during a meeting with his Nigerian counterpart, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, in Berlin, as both countries marked 65 years of diplomatic relations.
According to a statement by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Senior Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to Mr Tuggar, Nigeria and Germany renewed their commitment to deepening cooperation under the Nigeria–Germany Bi-National Commission framework.
Germany praised Nigeria’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts, describing the country as a “valued and reliable partner” for the European Union in combating radical Islamist extremism.
The Minister also highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in stabilising the Lake Chad Basin and its collaboration with regional and international partners to counter violent extremism.
“Germany reaffirms its commitment to supporting Nigeria through capacity building, intelligence sharing, and humanitarian assistance aimed at restoring peace and development in affected regions,” the statement added.
