Community leaders in Benue State say at least 50 people have been killed in Tombo community, Logo Local Government Area, within the last ten months.
The leaders, Tiza Job and Joseph Tsavsar made the disclosure over the weekend during a condolence visit by Senator Emmanuel Udende, who represents Benue North-East Senatorial District.
They lamented that Tombo, formerly one of the state’s major food-producing communities, has been devastated by repeated attacks.
According to them:
“Since the start of this year, over 50 persons have been killed, many others injured, and property worth millions destroyed. Our community, once known for abundant food production, has been reduced to a shadow of its former self. We appeal to government and security agencies to step in and stop these attacks.”
The leaders also thanked Senator Udende for previously providing relief materials after earlier incidents, adding prayers for greater strength and capacity for him to continue supporting the community.
Senator Udende, who visited with political associates including Abancha Tsenongo, Martins Agir, and Asawa Moses, said he came to console affected families and restate his commitment to their security.
“I stand with you in this difficult time,” he assured. “I have met with the Minister of Budget and National Planning on the Senate resolution for the completion of the Police Barracks at Ayilamo. Once completed, it will greatly improve security presence here and help reduce these killings.”
He urged residents to remain calm and patient as efforts to restore peace and stability continue.
