Governor Monday, the Edo State Governor, has ordered the immediate reinstatement of staff members from Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, who were previously sacked by the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The reinstated staff were members of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU) and were relieved of their appointment in March 2023 after agitating for the payment of their outstanding salaries and other entitlements owed by the previous administration.
According to the Secretary to the Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, the staff were unlawfully disengaged by the defunct Special Intervention Team (S.I.T.) under Obaseki’s administration.
Ikhilor emphasized that the reinstatement demonstrates Governor Monday’s commitment to the rule of law and justice in governance.
The ASUU Chairman at AAU, Cyril Onogbosele, welcomed the reinstatement, describing it as a just and positive development.
He noted that the decision had been a long-standing demand, with promises made by the former governor in March 2023 that had not been fulfilled.
This move is seen as a significant step towards addressing the injustices of the past administration and promoting a culture of fairness and accountability in Edo State.
