Tinubu Tax Reform bills has gained massive momentum amongst members of the House of Representatives.
In a significant development, the Southern lawmakers caucus in the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bills.
The caucus made its position known at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
The tax reform bills, which have been a subject of intense debate in recent weeks, comprise four key pieces of legislation: the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill 2024, Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill 2024, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill 2024.
Hon. Babajimi Benson, a member of the caucus, explained that the bills aim to revamp Nigeria’s tax system.
He emphasized that the National Assembly is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the Tinubu Tax Reform bills undergo rigorous scrutiny before being passed into law.
According to Benson, the legislative process involves several stages, including first and second readings, public hearings, and interests from various stakeholders.
He stressed that the caucus is committed to working with its counterparts to ensure that the bills ultimately benefit Nigeria as a whole.
Echoing Benson’s sentiments, Hon. Fredrick Agbedi noted that the National Assembly’s primary responsibility is to make laws for the country, rather than perpetuating regional divisions.
He emphasized that the caucus is committed to providing better tax laws for Nigerians, regardless of regional affiliations.
The Southern lawmakers’ endorsement of President Tinubu’s tax reform bills marks a significant milestone in the legislative process.
As the bills continue to undergo scrutiny, it remains to be seen how they will ultimately shape Nigeria’s tax landscape.
