Troops in a significant blow to the Boko Haram/ISWAP terr*rist group, have successfully eliminated at least 34 insurgents in a fierce battle at Sabon Gari Community, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
According to a statement by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the terr*rists launched a surprise attack on troops deployed in the area, riding on motorcycles and gun trucks.
However, their plan was foiled when a troops’ fighting patrol, returning to base, quickly responded to the assault.
Reinforcement teams, comprising elements of the Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilante, and hybrid forces, also arrived at the scene in time to overpower the terr*rists.
Although the vigilante commander was injured by an improvised explosive device, the team successfully decimated the fleeing insurgents.
The air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted air interdiction on the fleeing terrorists, further weakening their ranks.
A thorough battle damage assessment revealed that 34 terr*rists were k*lled, and 23 AK-47 rifles, along with over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, were recovered.
This significant victory is a testament to the bravery and resilience of Nigerian troops in their ongoing fight against terr*rism.
The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of the military’s strategies and the importance of collaboration between different security forces.
