After attending a business meeting on Friday, February 9, 2024, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, their son Chizzy, and another business associate boarded a chartered helicopter with the intention of attending the Super Bowl; one of the few sporting events that Wigwe attended during his lifetime, when the ill-fated aircraft crashed in California, USA. He perished in the crash together with his wife, son, and business partner.

The overwhelming outpouring of condolences from the public, business, and governmental sectors emphasizes the profound influence Herbert Wigwe had on the continent and the global community. Although he will undoubtedly be missed, his enormous legacy will endure.
