The Dangote Group has shared its sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, who unfortunately passed away after suffering serious injuries from a road accident. The accident happened in Auchi, Edo State, and it involved one of the company’s trucks.
The company made this announcement on Sunday through a statement posted on its official account on X (formerly Twitter). The statement was signed by the company’s management.
Ruth Otabor was the younger sister of Phyna, a well-known Nigerian reality TV star who gained fame after winning the Big Brother Naija show. Ruth was badly injured in the crash and had been receiving treatment since the accident.
According to the Dangote Group, before her passing, plans had already been put in place to take Ruth abroad for further medical treatment. The company explained that arrangements were made to fly her to India for advanced healthcare, but this could only happen after her doctors gave medical clearance. Sadly, she died before this plan could be carried out.
In its statement, the Dangote Group expressed deep sympathy to Ruth’s family, her friends, and everyone who knew her. The message read:
“We are truly heartbroken by the death of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the road accident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the whole Dangote Group, we send our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this painful time. Since the accident happened, our staff members and our insurance partners have stayed close to her and her family. We have been responsible for all financial expenses, including her hospital bills, and we have also been giving the family full support.”
The company went on to say that even though they had done everything possible, including preparing to take her overseas for treatment, Ruth sadly did not survive.
The statement also highlighted that at the Dangote Group, values such as safety, accountability, and compassion are taken very seriously. The company promised that it would continue to improve its safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, while also remaining committed to supporting victims and their families whenever accidents occur. The message ended with prayers for Ruth’s soul, saying: May God grant her eternal rest and comfort her loved ones.
