According to Bsgistnews, we gathered that the city of New York will on Thursday pay final respects to Didarul Islam, the 36-year-old NYPD officer tragically killed during Monday’s mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
Islam, who was off-duty and working a private security job, was among four victims fatally shot by a lone gunman who later died by suicide inside the high-rise office building. His bravery and sacrifice have since drawn tributes from top city officials and citizens alike.
A Bangladeshi immigrant, Islam joined the NYPD four years ago and was previously a school safety officer. At the time of his death, he was assigned to a precinct in the Bronx. He is survived by his pregnant wife, who is eight months along, and their two young sons.
“He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. “He died as he lived; a hero.”
“It is not just a tragedy, it is a rupture in the soul of our city,” added Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who praised Islam as “the best of who we are.”
Funeral and Burial Plans
Islam’s funeral service will be held on Thursday at Parkchester Jame Masjid, a mosque in the Bronx. The ceremonies will include a series of viewings, followed by Islamic funeral prayers. His interment will take place in New Jersey.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who met with Islam’s grieving family, said:
“I heard a number of stories about him and how the values they instilled in their son made him the hero he was. I pray for their peace.”
Other Victims Remembered
In addition to Officer Islam, the shooting claimed the lives of:
- Aland Etienne, a security guard for the building;
- Wesley LePatner, a top executive at Blackstone, wife and mother;
- Julia Hyman, a young professional at Rudin Management.
“You are not alone. All of New York grieves with you,” Schumer said, offering solidarity to the victims’ families. “The city will carry their memories forward.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, highlighting the bravery of first responders like Islam, whose legacy will continue to inspire.
