King Charles and Queen Camilla in a poignant moment have said their final goodbyes to Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a three-year renovation period.
The Palace’s state rooms will undergo a £369million refurbishment programme, forcing the royal couple to relocate their official duties to Windsor Castle until 2027.
The King and Queen hosted their last State Banquet at the Palace, welcoming the Qatari royals for a formal farewell.
Although they appeared in high spirits in newly released photographs, a royal insider revealed that the couple was “a little emotional” about leaving the Palace.
In a joint message, King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed their gratitude, writing: “Thank you for coming!”
The refurbishment works, which commenced in 2017, have required significant adjustments, including the relocation of the King’s private office from the north wing to the Belgian Suite on the ground floor of the palace’s west-facing Garden Wing.
Interestingly, the King’s new workspace includes the Orleans Room, where he was born on November 14, 1948.
King Charles seemed to be in good spirits on Thursday, however, as he visited St Peter’s Church, meeting with staff, aid workers, and volunteers who have supported humanitarian appeals for the Middle East and Ukraine.
