Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister is at risk of losing two of his Ministers.
The Ministers, Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and minister of diaspora affairs, Amichai Chikli, have threatened to resign from the Netanyahu government if it ratifies the proposed ceasefire deal in Gaza.
Ben-Gvir has called the deal “irresponsible” and “reckless,” saying it would undermine the achievements of the war by releasing Palestinian militants and withdrawing from strategic areas in Gaza.
The ceasefire deal, set to be voted on by the Israeli government led by Netanyahu on Friday, has been met with skepticism by some ministers.
Ben-Gvir and Chikli’s threats to resign highlight the deep divisions within the government over the deal.
Key Concerns that may Affect Netanyahu;
– Release of Palestinian militants: Ben-Gvir believes the deal would release hundreds of Palestinian militants, potentially allowing them to return to violence.
– Withdrawal from strategic areas: The deal would require Israel to withdraw from strategic areas in Gaza, which Ben-Gvir argues would leave Hamas undefeated.
– Philadelphi corridor: Chikli has specifically expressed concerns about Israel’s potential withdrawal from the Philadelphi corridor, a strategic area along the Gaza-Egypt border.
Despite these concerns, opposition leader Yair Lapid has pledged his support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the deal is “more important than any disagreement we’ve ever had.”
The situation remains volatile, with fighting continuing in Gaza despite the ceasefire announcement.
