NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control) in a major crackdown on counterfeit products, has seized fake alcoholic drinks worth over N180 million in Lagos.
The agency’s raid on a makeshift factory in Oke Arin Market, Lagos Island, was prompted by a complaint about the illegal production of alcoholic beverages.
Three men were arrested during the operation, including the main suspect, Mr. Tochukwu Henry.
According to NAFDAC, Henry confessed to refilling bottles labeled as Rémy Martin with St Rémy contents, and employing two others to assist in the illicit operation.
The seized products included fake versions of popular brands, with the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control urging the public to remain vigilant, particularly during the festive season.
The agency encouraged Nigerians to report suspicious activities and products to the nearest NAFDAC office to ensure public safety.
As the investigation continues, all suspects are currently in custody.
