Niger State Government has issued a warning to residents of Shiroro Local Government Area to exercise extreme caution and avoid areas suspected of being planted with landmines by terr*rists.
This warning comes amid concerns of Niger State Government over the increasing threat of explosive devices planted by insurgents in the region.
According to Commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Abdullahi, the Niger State Government has received intelligence reports indicating that terrorists have begun planting bombs in the area, posing a significant risk to the lives of residents.
Abdullahi emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that residents, particularly farmers, should restrict their movement and avoid areas suspected of being mined until the military completes its clearance operations.
The warning follows a recent incident on December 19, 2024, in which three bomb explosions occurred in the Bassa community, resulting in three fatalities and five injuries.
The government’s warning is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing further casualties and ensuring public safety.
Abdullahi’s statement was made during the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) event at the 013 Quick Response Force of the Nigerian Air Force in Minna.
The commissioner’s warning underscores the need for residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to prevent the proliferation of explosive devices in the region.
