TCN (The Transmission Company of Nigeria) has successfully restored bulk power supply to the 132/33 kilovolt Apo Transmission Substation, ending a two-week blackout that affected parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the restoration of power was made possible by the relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line, which was necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s (FCDA) road dualization project along the Apo axis.
The relocation work, which commenced on January 6, 2025, involved dismantling and reconstructing the towers, as well as restringing power cables.
The successful completion of the project has enabled the TCN to restore full bulk power to the Apo Transmission Substation, effective January 23, 2025.
With the restoration of power, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) can now provide normal electricity supply to its customers in the affected areas, bringing an end to the load rationing that was implemented during the blackout period.
The TCN’s prompt completion of the relocation work has minimized the disruption to electricity supply, and the company has assured that it will continue to work towards maintaining a stable and reliable power supply to its customers.
