FIRS Chairman, Zaccheus Adedeji, has put an end to speculation about his potential run for the Oyo State governorship seat in the 2027 general election.
Adedeji made it clear that he has no intention of contesting the election, stating that his focus is solely on his current role as FIRS (Federal Inland Revenue Service) Chairman.
Despite being touted by some as a potential successor to Governor Oluseyi Makinde, FIRS Chairman Adedeji emphasized that he is committed to his tax job and needs prayers from his supporters to succeed.
He acknowledged that his decision may disappoint some of his supporters but expressed gratitude for their understanding.
Adedeji’s statement was made during a New Year’s service at his church in Iwo Ate, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He reflected on his past experience as Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, stating that he did his best during his tenure.
It’s worth noting that Adedeji’s leadership as FIRS Chairman has been marked by significant reforms, including the introduction of a digital tax filing system, which has improved efficiency and transparency.
His expertise in tax administration has led some to speculate about his potential to transform Oyo State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) if he were to become governor.
However, with Adedeji’s confirmation that he will not be contesting the election, it remains to be seen who will take the reins in Oyo State come 2027.
