Governor Yusuf of Kano State has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to reconsider the cost of Hajj, citing the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.
This plea came during a ceremony where refunds from the Saudi Arabian government were distributed to pilgrims who experienced a power outage during the 2023 Hajj operations.
Governor Yusuf praised the Saudi Arabian authorities for their kind gesture, announcing plans to express his gratitude formally through a letter to the Saudi consulate in Kano.
He also commended the National Hajj Commission for their transparency and timely distribution of funds.
The Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Laminu Rabiu Danbaffa, revealed that the state received a refund of ₦375 million from the National Hajj Commission, which will be distributed to pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj.
As Governor Yusuf signs significant budgets into law, such as the N719 billion appropriation bill for 2025, his appeal highlights the need for economic relief for Nigerians, particularly those undertaking the sacred pilgrimage.
