Omirhobo took issue with Tinubu’s advice to Nigerians to manage their electricity bills by reducing consumption, citing the president’s own failure to cut costs in governance.
Malcolm Omirhobo argued that it’s hypocritical for Tinubu to encourage Nigerians to switch off their lights to reduce electricity bills when he hasn’t made similar efforts to reduce government spending.
The lawyer expressed his concerns on X, emphasizing the need for Tinubu to lead by example.
Interestingly, Tinubu’s administration has faced criticism for its handling of electricity costs.
Despite initially hiking electricity tariffs and removing fuel subsidies, the president later intervened to halt a planned tariff increase, opting instead to maintain subsidies on power consumption.
In his statement, Malcolm Omirhobo questioned Tinubu’s credibility on the issue, highlighting the need for the president to address his own administration’s spending habits before advising citizens on how to manage their expenses.
