The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced significant changes in the Nigerian Police Force, including the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Taraba and Anambra States.
Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere from Abia State will now lead the Taraba State Command, taking over from CP Peter Oparah, while Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu from Bayelsa State will head the Anambra State Command, succeeding CP Obong Nnache Itam.
Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, urged the new Commissioners to settle into their roles quickly and maintain law and order effectively.
He emphasized the importance of vigilance in preventing security lapses and instability. Argungu also charged the new CPs to demonstrate dedication and commitment to fighting banditry and other forms of criminal activity.
In addition to the appointments, the PSC has approved the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers across various ranks. This includes:

The PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that the Commission’s decisions have been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
