Seyi Makinde, Oyo State Governor has raised an alarm over the influx of bandits from the Northwest into the state, fleeing from continued military operations in their region.
Seyi Makinde vowed to take decisive action against these bandits, ensuring they do not find a safe haven in Oyo.
Speaking at the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers in Ibadan, the governor emphasized that 2024 was a challenging year, marked by incidents of fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings.
However, he reassured residents that his administration is committed to addressing these security concerns in 2025.
Seyi Makinde revealed that a recent security briefing informed him of the relocation of bandits from the Northwest to Oyo, due to the intense military heat in their zones.
He warned that his government will not tolerate the presence of these bandits, citing a personal experience where bandits camped less than two kilometers from his birthday retreat location.
The governor urged traditional rulers and residents to report any suspicious movements to security operatives, assuring them of their safety.
He emphasized that bandits will not be allowed to gain a foothold in Oyo, and he will work tirelessly to ensure every inch of the state is secure.
