Troops consisting of a joint team of security operatives in a significant crackdown on criminal activities, has successfully raided and dislodged suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Aku, Okigwe Council Area of Imo State.
Led by Brig.-Gen. Usman Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence gathered by the security agencies.
The Troops is a joint team comprised the military, police, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The clearance operation, which commenced on November 29, aimed to restore peace and security in the area.
According to Lawal, the operation has yielded positive results, with peace gradually returning to the area.
He urged the residents of Aku to cooperate with security operatives by providing credible and helpful information.
Notably, a notorious IPOB commander, Ifeanyi Okorienta, and his gang were displaced during the operation.
Lawal assured residents that they could safely return home to celebrate the Yuletide season.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, pledged continued cooperation with all security agencies involved in the operation.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Gen. Joseph Chima (Rtd), also assured the public of the government’s commitment to providing logistics for security operatives.
