Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have dealt a significant blow to terr*rism in Zamfara State, eliminating notorious bandit leader Sani Rusu and dozens of his followers in a fierce gun battle.
The operation, which took place on January 4 in Bamamu village, Tsafe Local Government Area, was intelligence-driven and aimed at disrupting terr*rist activities in the region.
According to Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, the troops engaged the bandits in a intense firefight, successfully neutralizing their leader and scores of his followers.
The bandits’ enclaves were also destroyed during the operation.
In a related development, troops conducted an ambush operation at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi Local Government Area, targeting terrorist movements.
The ambush resulted in the neutralization of additional terr*rists, with others sustaining fatal injuries.
The troops recovered a cache of weapons, including:
– Firearms: one AK-47 rifle and one G3 rifle
– Ammunition: eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition
– Magazines and Vehicles: three magazines and three motorcycles
The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma also played a crucial role in the operation, conducting precision airstrikes on December 30, 2024.
The airstrikes targeted terr*rists converging between Fakai and Kware in Shinkafi LGA, disrupting their plans and inflicting significant damage.
This operation is a significant victory for the troops in the fight against insecurity in Zamfara State, and it demonstrates the effectiveness of the military’s efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
