Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has gone public with his frustration after Atalanta rejected Inter Milan’s €45 million offer for his transfer. On Sunday, the 2023 Europa League hero officially submitted a transfer request, signaling his intention to leave the club after three seasons.
Atalanta reportedly declined Inter’s latest bid, a package totaling €45 million (€42 million upfront with €3 million in add-ons) deeming it insufficient. This came after an earlier offer of €40 million plus €5 million in bonuses was also turned down.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Lookman expressed disappointment over the club’s refusal and pleaded for a peaceful resolution:
“I hope to work together with the club to find an amicable solution for all parties as soon as possible.”
In a heartfelt message, Lookman reflected on his time in Bergamo, describing his journey with Atalanta as one of passion, loyalty, and unforgettable memories:
“Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given absolutely everything. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. I’ve always worn the shirt with pride and tried to represent this club and the city of Bergamo with heart, passion and dedication.
Winning the Europa League and celebrating with our fans in Dublin was one of the proudest moments of my career. It still gives me goosebumps.”

Despite his loyalty, Lookman said he now believes it’s time to move on, citing broken promises from the club’s management:
“The club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move. Now, despite such an offer being made, the opportunity is being blocked for reasons I cannot understand.”
The Nigerian forward emphasized that this was not a decision he took lightly:
“I have loved every moment here, but feel that after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it’s the right time to begin a new adventure. I hope the fans understand that this is simply about standing up for what I believe is fair and right.”
He ended the message by thanking Atalanta’s supporters:
“To the fans, the heartbeat of this club, I’m truly sorry it’s come to this. Your support has been incredible, and the bond we’ve built is special.”
Since joining Atalanta in 2022, Lookman has emerged as one of their standout performers. His most iconic moment came during the 2023 Europa League final, where he netted a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first major European title.

His brilliant run also earned him a Ballon d’Or nomination, thanks to a stellar performance in the Europa League and an impressive outing with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team reached the final.
