Ian Wright the Arsenal legend believes Chelsea made a significant mistake by not signing former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale during the summer transfer window.
Ramsdale, who spent two successful seasons at Arsenal, ultimately fell out of favor with manager Mikel Arteta and joined Southampton.
Wright, speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, expressed his opinion that Ramsdale would have been an ideal fit for Chelsea.
He emphasized that the Blues’ primary concern lies in strengthening their defense, particularly in goal.
Ian Wright stated, “Defensively, they just need to tighten up everything. I think now if they can get a top goalkeeper – I thought Ramsdale would have been perfect for them.”
Wright’s assessment highlights Chelsea’s potential to contend for the title, provided they can address their defensive vulnerabilities.
He noted that the team’s offense is well-equipped, citing the impressive performances of players like Jadon Sancho and Cole Palmer.
However, Ian Wright stressed that the addition of an experienced center-half, such as Thiago Silva, and a top-class goalkeeper like Ramsdale would have significantly bolstered Chelsea’s title aspirations.
