Michael Owen, former Manchester United striker has launched a scathing critique of the Red Devils’ performance following their 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day at Molineux.
Michael Owen described United’s display as “absolutely awful,” particularly in their attacking endeavors.
The ex-England international expressed his disappointment with United’s tactical approach, highlighting the team’s tendency to over-defend.
“You’d never see a Liverpool team defending with three players marking one opponent,” Owen said on Premier League Productions.
“Instead, they’d adopt a more aggressive approach, pushing spare players into attacking positions.”
Michael Owen’s criticism extended to United’s overall performance under manager Ruben Amorim, suggesting that the team is struggling to function effectively.
“Even if they weren’t conceding many goals, I wouldn’t be getting carried away because the team isn’t clicking,” Owen said.
“They’re woefully inadequate in attack, and I couldn’t identify a single clear-cut chance they created against Wolves.”
The defeat to Wolves has left United languishing in 14th position in the Premier League table, prompting concerns about the team’s prospects for the remainder of the season.
