The introduction of Corporate Officers will facilitate effective communication between the NCC and telecom companies, providing a feedback mechanism to ensure compliance with governance principles.

With this development, the NCC reaffirms its commitment to creating an enabling operating environment and improving the investment climate in the Nigerian telecom industry.

The NCC news in detail;

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is taking a significant step to enhance corporate governance in the telecoms industry by introducing the new role of Corporate Officers.

This move aims to ensure that telecom companies adhere to Nigeria’s Code of Corporate Governance, promoting transparency, accountability, and responsibility.

Key Objectives of Corporate Officers by NCC

– Feedback Mechanism: Facilitate effective communication between the Nigerian Communications Commission and GSM companies to ensure compliance with corporate governance principles.

– Participatory Process: Foster collaboration with stakeholders in applying Nigeria’s Code of Corporate Governance to the telecoms industry.

– Transparency and Responsibility Reporting: Oversee areas such as telecom subscribers’ database, data integrity, operations, and market share.

The Nigerian Communications Commission believes that this policy will not only enhance transparency and responsibility but also create value for stakeholders, contribute to the nation’s GDP, and align the industry with global best practices.

Positive Outcomes

– A drop in tele density due to the NIN-SIM linkage, providing a more realistic population figure of 216 million people in Nigeria.

– Successful resolution of the interconnectivity issue between Globacom and MTN.

– Continuous engagement with stakeholders in the telecoms industry.

By establishing Corporate Officers, the Nigerian Communications Commission demonstrates its commitment to promoting good governance and ethical business practices in Nigeria’s telecoms sector.
