Early Life and Education
Robert Prevost was born to Louis Marius Prevost, of French and Italian descent, and Mildred Martínez, of Spanish descent. He grew up in Dolton, a suburb of Chicago, alongside his two brothers, Louis Martín and John Joseph. From an early age, Prevost felt a calling to the priesthood, leading him to attend the Minor Seminary of the Augustinian Fathers.
He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Villanova University in 1977 and studied theology at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He entered the Order of Saint Augustine in 1978, made his solemn vows in 1981, and was ordained a priest in 1982.
