Aba Power, the electricity distribution company serving Abia State, has introduced a substantial increase in electricity tariffs for its customers.
The new rates, which took effect on January 1, 2025, represent a more than 50% hike, as approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
According to the Aba Power’s official notice, customers categorized under Band A will now pay between N219.70 and N241.45 per kilowatt-hour, up from the previous rate of N99/kWh.
Similarly, Band B customers will be charged between N180.77 and N203/kWh, while those under Band C will pay between N145 and N205/kWh.
The DisCo attributed the tariff increase to the current macroeconomic climate in Nigeria, which has impacted the company’s ability to maintain high-quality services.
The company stated that the adjustment will enable it to comply with regulatory standards while continuing to deliver quality services to its customers.
This development follows NERC’s approval of an electricity tariff hike for distribution companies (DisCos) in April last year.
The hike has significant implications for Aba Power’s customers, who will need to adapt to the increased rates.
