Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has clarified that there is no merger deal yet with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Peter Obi made this statement during a press conference in Abuja, where he discussed the state of the nation.

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that no agreement has been established with other parties, and instead, he is focused on strengthening his political base across the nation.

Peter Obi’s team has been working on building a nationwide structure, learning from the lessons of the last election, particularly the importance of having reliable people on the ground.

Obi rallied all Nigerians to come together in 2027 and defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of mismanaging the country’s resources.

He criticized the APC’s handling of the economy, security, and corruption, stating that the level of corruption remains high, and the cost of governance has led to an astronomical increase in public debt under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi secured an impressive 6,101,533 votes, while Tinubu won with 8,794,726 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP got 6,984,520 votes.

Obi’s performance was notable, considering he was a first-time contestant.

Obi’s statement comes amidst speculation about potential alliances between opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Obi’s team has made it clear that their focus is on consolidating their own movement, rather than exploring merger options.
